When I was a little girl, I didn’t sit in the kitchen watching my mother while she lovingly made her wonderful, delicious toffee from an old family recipe. And that’s lucky for you because they couldn’t bake or cook (or much else in the kitchen)! So needless to say, this is not your (or my) grandma’s/mama's toffee!!! You can get that "olde" fashioned stuff anywhere.
A few years ago I tasted some homemade toffee. I have always loved toffee but (as silly as it sounds) I didn’t know it was something you could MAKE in your very own kitchen.
Thus began the Biggie's Crack Toffee journey. I started making the toffee as a treat for me and my friends. I would take the usual ingredients but then began playing with the recipe and the toppings. I have always preferred premium dark chocolate and love a little savory sea salt sprinkled on top to cut the sweetness. The most fun I have had is experimenting with different flavors and combinations. The possibilities are endless. Most of what you see offered is a result of pure serendipity! For example, the Toasted Almond Toffee came about when I asked a friend to pick up almonds and he bought raw ones instead of roasted. Instead of retuning them to the store he suggested I just toast them myself. They were so much better than what I had been making. Several of our other flavors were suggestions from people who had a hankering.
The biggest revelation came when I discovered I preferred eating the toffee at the edges of the pan that were thin and crunchy. One of my gripes with regular toffee has always been that it is too thick and hard. And I know I'm not alone. When you eat our Crack Toffee what you get is thin, cracky, crunchy, yummy, buttery and unlike other toffee on the market.
After making the toffee for friends came the inevitable “this is great! You should sell it!” Having started many business ventures, I knew this was more easily said than done. But with a lot of hard work and dedication and an enormous amount of help, Biggie's Crack Toffee was launched and we are now sharing our delicious thin toffee with everyone!
